We all long to be understood, to have our voice heard, to inspire others and to be inspired.
Youth mental health has never been a more important topic and yet for many teenagers finding an outlet for expression or creativity can often be challenging – and frankly, embarrassing.
Whether it’s a form of escapism or mindfulness, writing poetry is known to help young people to process their emotions and express themselves by putting their feelings into words.
For most school-aged children, however, fears of vulnerability, performing on stage, peer pressure and not believing they are creative, can hold them back.
Popular community event, Word Up, hosts poets of all ages and backgrounds, offering them a friendly platform that encourages self-expression through poetry in any form, in a welcoming and inclusive space.
The event now attracts several talented young poets who have found it to be transformational – and we want to share this with your school!
